Socially, a party or event can be so much fun. You dress up, make small talk, and enjoy the surrounding people all while the appetizer trays keep mysteriously crossing your path. It never fails, no matter how much effort you put into the gym or into selecting the right foods for the week, a party can throw that all away in a flash. Can I tell you what though? It really doesn’t have to be that way. It’s all about making better choices and setting yourself up for success, even before you leave the house.
In a perfect world, you would start drinking up extra water first thing in the morning and throughout the day. Your meals would be higher in protein than usual up until you left for the party. This way, you arrive at the party without a ravenous appetite and can easily pick through the food choices that are in front of you. And let’s not forget to fit in that extra work out for the day. This will assure you that your metabolism is in high gear and can help you burn a few extra calories while you are lingering at the buffet table.
The bottom line is that this is all about habits. Most of us go to a party with the unconscious belief that there will be an endless supply of free food. We get there ready to eat it up and by the time we get home a true food coma sets in. You have to change your mindset. Remember that food is fuel and that is all. Mindless eating leads to lethargy, weight gain, disease, and even a feeling of “ick” after you have overindulged beyond your limits. When you treat food as the fuel that will keep you moving, you become more selective and reap the benefits of more energy, strength, and amazing health. It’s all about choices!
