Coral Vita grows resilient coral up to 50x faster to restore dying reefs. Half of coral reefs are dead and over 90% are on track to die by 2050. By growing diverse and resilient coral for reef restoration, we help preserve the ocean’s biodiversity. In turn, we protect the prosperity and health of communities, nations, and industries that depend on reefs for coastal protection, food, and revenue. There is an urgent need to jumpstart a Restoration Economy to protect the ecosystems that sustain humanity. By selling restoration as a service to reef-dependent customers, Coral Vita works to inject the needed capital to scale restoration globally and preserve coral reefs for future generations.
Sam Teicher and Gator Halpern met at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, where they both received Master of Environmental Management degrees. Together, they helped launch the Social and Environmental Entrepreneurship Club and were awarded the university’s first-ever Green Innovation Fellowship. Their graduate studies in Business & the Environment and their love for oceans inspired them to launch a company to solve global coral reef degradation.
Sam is the Co-Founder and Chief Reef Officer of Coral Vita. After graduating from Yale College in 2012, he served as the Chief Operating Officer for the Mauritius-based non-profit ELI Africa. While there, he helped launch a United Nations-funded coral farming project in partnership with the Mauritius Oceanography Institute. This experience played a big part in him and Gator later creating Coral Vita as they obtained their master’s degrees from the Yale School of the Environment. Sam previously interned for the White House Council on Environmental Quality’s Climate Preparedness Team, worked for the Global Island Partnership, and was a contributing author to Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water. He is a Forbes 30 Under 30 Social Entrepreneur, a Global Climate Action Summit ‘Climate Trailblazer,’ and a fellow in Echoing Green, the Halcyon Incubator, JMK Innovation Prize, and Wild Gift. Sam is an optimistic DC sports fan, an easy-going rugby player, and a PADI Rescue diver.
